As of 10:07p PDT on Friday 5th September, Venus moved on from the sunny brilliance and warmth of Leo and entered the down-to-earth sign of Virgo.  It’s an interesting combination – Venus and Virgo – as they complement each other, but not necessarily in ways people may think.

Virgo is the sign of service, purpose, and functionality.  It tends to be focused on making sure things work in the most efficient and effective ways possible.  If things are broken, Virgo fixes them.  If things are wounded, Virgo heals them.  If it’s a long and complicated process, Virgo attends to the details to simplify it so it can make it work more efficiently and effectively.

Venus is the planet of partnership and of fairness, justice, and balance.  It wants to make sure that not only do things work, but they work in a fair and balanced way.  The problem is that the Universe itself works in equal balances, but that’s usually not how the ego-driven world works.  Venus may find that when it comes to solving the problems of the world, bringing matters into fair and equal balance may be easier said than done.

In the day-to-day of your life, Venus in Virgo may have you fully present to how relationships are a matter of practice and purpose.  Making relationships work in the world we live in takes a bit more than emotional and/or romantic magic.  There is a rather mundane practical role for partnerships and relationships in our lives that is often overlooked when the excitement and idealism is fully in play.  It’s only after you’ve been in it for a while that the reality of day-to-day living sets in.  Who does the grocery shopping?  Who drops off and picks up the kids?  Who cooks dinner?  Who walks the dog?  What about the dry cleaning?

It’s the little details you may take for granted in your everyday life that begin to become more noticeable when you enter partnership with another or others.  It’s these everyday details and how they get attended to within your partnership(s) that determine whether or not the partnership truly makes sense.

This brings forth the challenge in Venus in Virgo – recognizing that fair doesn’t always mean equal.  Sometimes, one partner may need to do something because the other can’t be there or doesn’t have that skill set.  In some circumstances, one partner is going to need to carry a larger load than the other for a while if not as an inherent part of the relationship structure.  The key to a successful relationship rarely is dividing responsibilities and necessities down the middle, but rather recognizing the balance achieved through the alchemical blending of the parties in partnership.

Venus in Virgo brings a heightened awareness of the practical purpose(s) of the relationships you already have.  Which connections best support the everyday functionality of your life?  Which ones support your health and wellness on all levels – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual?  Which ones help you make progress in doing what you need to do in order to progress toward the lifestyle that you want to live?

Venus in Virgo may also help you recognize the partnerships that serve functional roles in your life.  However, the question to ask yourself is whether or not those relationships only exist as long as they serve a functional purpose in your life.  If you notice that you have certain friendships that only exist because you need or want something from them (or because they want or need something from you), you may use this 2014 Venus in Virgo transit to check the qualities of your relationships and see if there’s something deeper in them that connects you rather than simply having people in your life who will do things for you or being someone who does things for others.

Let me be clear.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing for others or others doing for you.  We are meant to be of service to each other, to help make each other’s lives easier.  However, the key during Venus in Virgo is to make sure that you aren’t giving up the workability of your own life for the workability of the lives of others.  Being of practical service and allowing yourself to receive service from others is important and commendable; but if you forget to eat, pay your own bills, pick up your kids, or walk your dog because you are placing everyone else’s lives ahead of your own, you may want to use the influence of this 2014 Venus in Virgo to reassess the functionality of your life and make some changes so it can actually work for you to work for others in the way you choose to.  If your work doesn’t work for you, you may want to question why you are doing it.  If your relationships don’t work for you or support your healthiest well-being, you may want to ask why you’re in them.

Venus will be traveling through Virgo now through 29th September 2014.  Some major Venus transits to be aware of within this timeframe:

  • Venus will oppose Neptune Retrograde in Pisces on 10the September. Your romantic ideals may be balanced with a back-to-earth moment.  Your rose-colored glasses experience may finally lose its tint as the true nature of your partnership(s) begins to set in.
  • Venus will trine Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn on 14th September, and you may begin to recognize the beginnings of a new, healthier support structure for the pursuit of your newly-defined goals and ambitions. If you haven’t figured out where you’re going, you may get the help you need around this time through the Universe’s destruction or elimination of what you no longer need.
  • Venus opposes Chiron Retrograde in Pisces on 17th September, and you may recognize the people who are in your life or coming in to your life to help you heal old emotional-spiritual wounds. This could be a profound moment of soul mate recognition and interaction just as long as you aren’t attached to your soul mate(s) fulfilling a particular role for you.  Be your true self and let them be who they are meant to be for you so you can receive the magic that’s meant to happen in your life.
  • And finally, Venus is part of a configuration known as a Yod on 18th-19th September involving Ceres in Scorpio and Uranus Retrograde in Aries. Knowing what you need in and from your day-to-day partnerships complements your being clear and decisive about your personal values and morals.  Together, these influences may help you take responsive actions to express your True self to others so they may know you for who you truly are and so you may truly begin to understand who you are among others.

Make the most of this 2014 Venus in Virgo transit.  Get real with yourself about the reality of your partnerships and watch your life begin working in ways you never imagined.
