The turn of the Gregorian New Year is upon us.  2013 is on its way out and 2014 is about to enter.  Each New Year comes in with its own unique energy, but rarely is one as dynamic as this one.

To start, what seems to be the big news of the 1st January 2014 is that we have the Capricorn New Moon occurring on New Year’s Day, at 3:15a PST (11:15a GMT) to be exact.  What better way to start the New Year than with the Moon in New phase to help us create new beginnings!

Yet new beginnings come with endings.  In order for new things to come into our lives, we must make room for them.  Therefore, there’s plenty of “out with the old” to help us “bring in the new”.

The Zodiac is having quite a party of its own for this New Year’s celebration, and it’s happening in the sign of Capricorn with the Sun, Moon, Pluto, and Mercury all in conjunction now with the 4-body stellium at its most exact on 1st January 2014.  Capricorn is cardinal earth energy, and it represents goals, ambitions, achievements, public and/or professional status, and the discipline and focus it takes to make it all happen.  It knows that the only things you can show for yourself and your life are your tangible or experiential results.  What do you have to show for your life?  What do you possess?  Who are your friends?  What is the condition of the relationships in your life?  What is your quality of life?  These are the questions Capricorn energy can bring forth.  All of these things matter in this world…as we’ve known it.

Yet with Pluto “the great transformer” in the sign of Capricorn, we have been undergoing a collective destruction and restructuring of our worldly, cultural, and societal goals and standards since 2008 – a process that will continue well into 2023.  All of that which defined success, status, and achievement even 10 years ago is not what defines it now.  We are losing our long-held benchmarks and definitions of success, fairness, and justice; and we are now being asked to create new standards for ourselves through Uranus in Aries (awakening to who you/we are uniquely in and for our community or humanity) and Mars in Libra (actions that you/we take in the name of balance, justice, peace, and/or beauty), which both are in square aspect to this party in Capricorn and opposite each other, creating a T-Square formation.   Mercury in Capricorn is an indication that our minds, thoughts, and communications are finally reflecting the shifts that have been occurring over these last few years.  We are now thinking and talking about how we can transform our lives and our world for the better.  And with the Capricorn Sun and Moon in conjunction for the New Moon phase, the Universe is listening.  New Moon phases are seed-planting times, and our thoughts and words now will indeed plant the seeds for what we want to grow and expand in our lives during this the New Year.

Factoring the numerological energies into the mix, New Year’s Day brings us into a 7 universal year – the energy of science and spirit.  This is a very analytical and thoughtful energy, one in which you may find yourself and others really thinking things through, considering all of the options available, and making plans or adjustments to plans as you move forward in your life’s journey(s).  Don’t mistake silence or withdrawal as indifference or inferiority.  You may find that the saying “silent, but deadly” is in play during this year.

The calendar’s universal month holds 8 energy – the energy of power, influence, and harvest/results.  The quiet people, organizations, and/or movements are likely the ones who have the power and influence and will be calling the shots throughout this year.  Whatever or whomever is loud, obnoxious, or otherwise trying to draw attention is probably more distraction than substance.

With New Year’s Day itself being a 9 universal day (completions, endings, authority), there’s a good chance you’ll be contemplating the outgoing year and assessing your results/outcomes to figure out what needs to go first and foremost.  Whatever you are (or feel) complete with at the beginning of the year will likely be on your agenda to clear away.  This is an opportunity for you to look at the results of your previous year, and to begin making plans to sustain/maintain them, expand on them, or to decrease or clear them.  This consider-and-purge process is likely to occur not only on a personal level, but on a collective level as well.

Combining the astrology and numerology of this moment in time produces a fascinating insight:  This New Year’s Day of 2014 could plant the seeds for humanity to experience a watershed moment in its existence – a moment when the individuals who make up humanity begin thinking for themselves and truly co-creating with the Universe to establish a new manifestation of the human experience.  It is in the freedom and individuality of thought, speech, and action that we can find our new common standards for what it means to be human, redefining humankind and redefining the world we live in as result.  This could very well be the actual beginning of the evolution of the human race…if we embrace it and allow it.

These changes we are undergoing are not easy ones.  This is not a light-hearted process and it’s not meant to be.  Transformation means to change completely in structure, composition, condition, character, and/or appearance, usually for the better.  That is what we are doing in many ways under the powerful influence of Pluto in Capricorn – transforming.  Capricorn has a serious nature, cardinal energy is all about action and initiative, and earth energy needs to experience things in tangible or practical form.  These challenging times are meant to weed out the free-thinkers from the sheep, the initiators/leaders from the followers, and the innovators from the copycats.

This Cardinal New Moon-Stellium-T-Square may be an especially unusual way to start the year, yet its intensity holds so much promise.  Revolution is at hand, even though the specific form it takes has yet to been seen.  But if you are willing to do your personal/individual work to change and/or make the most of your life – even if whatever you are doing seems small and inconsequential – know that you will be doing your unique part in and for the big picture of humanity and the world.  What you do for yourself won’t only make your life better; it could end up being good for all of us!

So don’t be afraid of who you can be (hint: it’s bigger and better than you could ever imagine!), and don’t let the old benchmarks of success define you.  Celebrate the potential of this moment, seize the day and plant seeds that create opportunities for you to be yourself fully and brilliantly! Make 2014 a glorious year for yourself and all of us!

Happy New Year to you!  Enjoy the party.

Grace
