The 2020 Pisces Full Moon reaches its maximum phase at 10:22p PDT on 1st September 2020 (10.20°). Pisces is a mutable water sign, so this will be a very emotional Full Moon phase, especially at a time when there’s so much practical reality to face and deal with. This isn’t going to be an easy Full Moon phase, but there are some rewards if we’re willing to do the work.

The Moon is in Pisces, and Pisces’ energy lends itself to visions and dreams, artistry and inspiration. It strives to serve something greater than itself as it is keenly aware of the interconnection of everyone and everything, including all other beings and conditions on the planet.

The sunlight that illuminates the Moon is coming from Virgo. The Virgo Sun is all about making things function as practical and efficiently as possible, with a strong focus on organizational and structural operations. On a personal level, Virgo’s scope of service is embodied in the question “how’s that working for you?” Yet the Pisces Moon takes the light from the Virgo Sun and expands its scope of service to the collective level, embodying the inquiry of “how’s that working for our community/society/world”?

That said, Pisces is driven largely by its intuitive and emotional sensitivity, in opposition or balance to Virgo’s pragmatic, functionality-focused, solution-driven energy. In contrast to Virgo’s down-to-earth manner of dealing with issues, Pisces can seem rather fantastic, delusional, and escapist – avoiding reality in every and any way it can. But the fact is, Pisces is idealistic on behalf of ALL of us. It wants to serve and bring forth the most loving solution for everyone and everything. So much so, it may be emotionally painful not to realize its vision of a unified, peaceful, loving world in which everyone cares for and about everyone else.

So as the 2020 Virgo Sun is exposing and revealing how the systems and structures world aren’t functioning to serve people well – when our everyday conditions are in a collective state of division, discord, and unjustified irrational disregard if not hatred for fellow human beings; intentionally-created confusion and chaos; and blatant disregard for the worsening conditions of our planet – Pisces’ lunar influence has us having a tough time living in and accepting this cold reality. Many of us simply cannot conceive that people would actively and consciously create these dire circumstances and/or that people would actually want others to struggle and suffer.

Yet this is the reality of where we are – divided, detached, and discordant.
And that’s where this 2020 Pisces Full Moon encourages us to feel this reality. It wants us to feel our sadness and pain.

The circumstances we find ourselves in are difficult for most of us to accept, but allowing ourselves to feel the pain of our current reality is what’s needed right now. We cannot move forward, collectively or individually, without allowing ourselves to acknowledge we’re losing or have lost certain staples of our everyday routines and ways of life, or that believing in certain social or societal ideals has jaded us. Grieving must occur and those painful feelings must be expressed and cleared if we are to find peace within ourselves and create peace beyond ourselves through genuine unity in emotional Truth.

Yes, there are many people urging peace and unity at this time, yet it’s important to distinguish what peace and unity mean for people right now.

  • For many of the loudest voices of the unity bandwagon, unity means ignore the massive red flags that certain situations are giving us and come together for the sake of “keeping the peace”. But without expressing our concerns and/or grief, what these people get to understand is that they may only be enabling situations which are in no way peaceful to continue unchecked and unaccounted for.
  • Other voices calling for unity want to address the roots of these matters of disagreement and discord, seeking to create community and/or collaboration with others who want to make honest and earnest changes to the current conditions. But what these people get to understand is that not everyone – in fact, most everyone else – doesn’t want to take responsibility for their part in the manifestation of the current conditions, nor responsibility for doing the work to create new ones. Without expressing their concerns, grief, and/or possibly guilt, and without a sense of ownership for creating something new or different, people would rather cling desperately to the dysfunctional status quo because they can’t see how their self-identities and lifestyles would continue without it.

The denial and ignorance of the red flags, the resistance to self-responsibility, and the clinging to the imploding status quo isn’t only happening in the world around us. It’s also happening in our personal lives – in our closest relationships and within ourselves. This is an opportunity to recognize where in our own lives we aren’t facing the practical realities or state of functionality of our lives, or maybe to see where we’re afraid of changing because we’re so emotionally invested in our status quo and don’t know how our lives would function without the conditions and connections we currently have in place.

And that may be the biggest challenge of this 2020 Pisces Full Moon period – realizing that efforts to bring about healing change are possibly being pushed aside in favor of what is emotionally familiar or comfortable… even if our status quo isn’t actually emotionally, mentally, or physically comfortable or safe. What will it take for us to embrace the changes we and our world need to survive, one and all?

Moving through our fears to take action anyway, and being willing to feel the uncomfortable feelings are the choices needed now.

Numerologically speaking, the 2020 Pisces Full Moon occurs on a 5 Universal day for all but the eastern time zones of North America – a day of change, chaos, and adaptability on the first day of an emerging 4 Universal Month that will be focused on establishing a sense of stability, security, and safety in a 4 Universal year encouraging the same desire for structure. Needless to say, for the majority of North America and all points west of it, this 2020 Pisces Full Moon period is going to be full of what will seem to be contradictions – destruction and violence in the name of re-establishing safety and security; change in the name of restoring stability and structure; chaos in the name of taking back control. But for eastern North America and the rest of the world, this Full Moon occurs on a 6 Universal day – a day of nurturing yet practical care and support, but also emotional comfort (which is sometimes emotional nostalgia – a longing for the past and “the way things were”). Combined with the 4 month and 4 year energy, this is a time to consider or choose whether the past and present truly support our personal and collective survival in the now and in the next. This consideration of what supports and serves us best comes with the Pisces Moon reflecting the light of the Virgo Sun, both signs representing the “Axis of Service” astrologically.

Here are the transits active during this 2020 Pisces Full Moon period, which runs from 29th/30th August through 4th/5th September 2020:

GRAND TRINE/KITE: Virgo Sun trine Capricorn Pallas Athena Retrograde sextile Pisces Moon sextile Taurus Uranus Retrograde (10-12) – If you choose to do the work, you feel empowered knowing the patterns of the outdated status quo are becoming obvious now, and as more people feel the disconnect of what’s being said versus what’s actually being done, there are more people realizing that things really aren’t going to return to a comfortable normal for a very long time. This realization is bringing a great deal of emotional angst to many, but individuals expressing and coming to terms with their emotions around all of these changes is helping them come to terms with the permanent changes happening in our communities, our societies, and our world.

CARDINAL GRAND SQUARE/CROSS: Cancer Venus square Libra Juno square Capricorn Pluto Retrograde square Aries Black Moon Lilith (22-25) – One-on-one emotional interactions challenge our commitments to those connections or to other relationships as we realize how people really feel about the profound transformation our communities and societies are undergoing now. The more things change, the more people seem to be looking at situations from a “what’s in it for me” standpoint, which is very valid… except for the question of whether or not they believe everyone else that doesn’t agree with them is expendable or not. This energy dynamic may find you needing to reassess what you really believe and stand for enough to take action on, and to get really clear about your motives behind  taking the action(s) you’re willing to take.

T-SQUARE: Capricorn Saturn Retrograde square Aries Mars square Cancer Venus (25-27) – There’s a distinct intensification of authority and discipline coming from institutional leaders, challenging both individual autonomy and the desire for emotional connection with others. Is the societal “right or wrong” more important than expressing one’s individuality or emotionally investing in yourself or another?

PARALLELOGRAM: Pisces Moon semi-sextile Aries Chiron Retrograde trine Leo Vesta semi-sextile Virgo Sun (8-10) – A heightened awareness of emotions leads to the uncomfortable revealing of self-identity wounds. These revelations are wonderful in that they inspire and encourage us to become very dedicated to healing these self-identity wounds, but we must be willing to acknowledge the practical work that needs to be done to follow through on healing to these wounds.

*Virgo Mercury trine Capricorn Pluto Retrograde (22-24) – Pragmatic exchanges of ideas and information prove enlightening and inspiring in regard to societal transformation.

*Virgo Mercury trine Capricorn Saturn Retrograde (24-25) – These pragmatic exchanges also prove enlightening and inspiring to those who are determined to uphold the status quo.

Notice in these two * transits that the origin of the information is the same, but the reception of those communications differ. One will take the exchanges of ideas and information as a call for clearing the slate to bring in something new, while the other will take them as a call to clear away any and all opponents/challengers to what already exists in the name of authority and discipline.

Cancer Venus sextile Virgo Mercury (24-25) – Emotionally-supportive partnerships support healthy exchanges of ideas and information, which would hopefully make it easier to find common ground on the issues which matter most to both parties involved, but…

Virgo Mercury quincunx Aries Black Moon Lilith (24) – …no matter how civil the exchange and no matter how much common ground is found, ego cannot be reasoned with if an individual has a fundamental belief that their individual self-identity must be preserved at all costs. This isn’t to say that one shouldn’t hold their self-identity dear to them. But if that self-identity is rooted in either existing solely for being of service to others OR in existing solely to be served by others, it’s highly unlikely that there will be compromise or change made.

Aries Chiron Retrograde trine Leo Vesta (8-9) – The more healing of self-identity you can recognize needs to be done, the more you can actually boost your confidence. There’s less “why is this happening to me”, and more “now what can I do to get out of my own way so I can get my way?”

The wide view and emotional awareness of all that’s happening in our world right now through the 2020 Pisces Full Moon is what makes the reality of the present moment so overwhelming for many. People are fearful of losing what they’ve chosen to define themselves by or through. In some cases, people are actually losing what they define themselves by – jobs, homes, health, relationships, daily routines… There is so much that’s changing that it’s no surprise so many are so fearful of what’s to come because they don’t see how they have any control in what happens next…

…yet they have more control over their futures than they think.

YOU have more control over your future than you think.

The funny thing is, the best way to discovering your control in the matters-at-hand is to emotionally let go. Pisces is mutable water energy, so the best thing to do is to imagine an ocean or river, and to imagine allowing yourself to be carried by the current, letting it take you whenever it takes you, not having any idea where you’re going to end up and allowing yourself to simply experience the journey until you arrive somewhere. The Virgo Sun energy will reveal pragmatic opportunities along the way – those are your choice points.

This can be releasing. This can be liberating. This is doable.

So let go. Let yourself feel the reality. Let yourself grieve what is lost. Then let yourself envision what is possible from here and now, if you’re willing to take steps forward on an unclear path. Then trust your intuition, trust your inner peace, and take those steps forward. You’ll make it through this reality more easily if you can allow yourself to see it for what it is while also allowing the conditions of peace and love you know can be manifest to guide you forward.
