Bottle bottom

Mercury entered the sign of Scorpio yesterday, 1st November 2015 at 11:06p PST, moving our thoughts and words into a deeper, more profound, and more decisive energy.

Scorpio represents those deep, dark, emotional and spiritual depths of ourselves that we are often most afraid of. Opposite Taurus, Scorpio leads us into the emotional truths of our desires – truths which are often uncomfortable for us to express and reveal, and truths which are often unexpected by others to learn and see or experience. Yet sharing these expressions of ourselves is how intimacy is developed in relationships of all kinds. These are the expressions of emotion which connect us to others on a more profound level and in more meaningful and enduring ways.

Scorpio often gets a bad rap for being closed-off and secretive. Yet wouldn’t you play things close to the vest if you believed that your deepest emotions and darkest secrets were vulnerable? (Yep – that’s what I thought.) That’s why it’s important to understand and remember that Scorpio is all about trust.

When you trust someone, you let your guard down around them and you let them see these deepest parts of your emotional and spiritual expression. If you don’t trust people, you may not let your guard down, and it affects your ability to develop meaningful connections with others in powerful and life-altering ways.

With Mercury in this sign, you may notice that your thought process is not satisfied by surface appearances. You want to get below the surface of things to seek and find “the real truth”. This search is clarified by one driving question – “Do I trust…?” You’ll be asking yourself if it’s safe for you to trust someone or something or if you can trust their motives. Can you trust their words and actions? Can you let your guard down? But most importantly, do you feel like you can trust them? Remember – Scorpio is a water sign, so your feelings are important. If you’re suddenly feeling angry or upset about something, it’s likely that there is something about the matter you don’t know or don’t trust. Pay attention to those feelings when they arise. You may be correct in your assessment.

Another thing you may learn through this process that your hesitation may not be your lack of trust in others as much as it may be a lack of trust in yourself. Yes, it’s important to trust your intuition if you feel like there’s something wrong of off about your suspicions. But if you believe your intuitions have failed you in the past, you may not trust yourself to make choices in your own best interests. This 2015 Mercury in Scorpio may be a perfect time for you to face any mistrust or distrust you have of yourself so you can develop emotional acceptance, confidence, and love for yourself, and therefore, develop those same qualities authentically in your relationships with others.

Part of this trust-building process is through the ability to make clear decisions. Mercury in Scorpio tends to favor decisiveness in its thinking, speaking, & action-taking. You may notice that you and others around you are more decisive at this time, seeking to establish clarity and reassurance in the matters at hand through the decisions being made. You may notice that communications are more concise and more powerful or profound…that is, when they happen.

There are two challenges here. One is that decisiveness can come through an all-or-nothing approach. There is no gray area with Scorpio’s decision-making process, and if you’re in an environment which requires compromise and collaboration, black-or-white thinking could be very disruptive. The other is that some information and/or communications may be strategically withheld for the sake of hiding or protecting a vulnerability of some sort. Even though the words won’t be said, this is where you get to trust your feelings to know if something is being hidden or held back. Pay attention to what is being said…and to what is not being said.

These next three weeks of the 2015 Mercury in Scorpio should be an amazing time for you to learn where you stand on the “truth-o-meter” and “trust-o-meter” scales in the matters at hand. You probably won’t have any questions about who you are, where you are, how you feel about yourself and your life, or what the next steps in your journey need to be after this experience of Mercury is done.

To that point, some upcoming transits of note:

  • Scorpio Mercury square Aries Uranus Retrograde most exact on 2nd November (3 universal day) – This is a prime opportunity to notice how all-or-nothing thinking can disrupt group projects and team efforts. Whether in charge of bringing people together or being an individual part of a collaborative whole, you’ll quickly notice where decisiveness serves well (giving all parties involved a clear focus)…and where it doesn’t (eliminating a fair and/or balanced contribution process).
  • Scorpio Mercury trine Pisces Neptune Retrograde most exact on 6th November (7 universal day) – You may gain valuable insights about the emotionally-driven truths behind some beliefs being practiced. Be ready to learn and understand what’s behind the delusions of others…and maybe your own delusions as well. Pointing fingers of judgment at others may not be your best move on or for 2 days before and after this transit is exact as you may soon realize you are in similar circumstances.
  • Scorpio Mercury sextile Capricorn Pluto most exact on 10th November (11 universal day) – Are you ready to have your world rocked? Conversations you have in and around this time may provide you with the information you’ve needed to make the transformative shift you’ve wanted to make. Of course, if you haven’t wanted to make a major shift in your life, it may be coming anyway. Things may occur and/or come to light which may decisively shift the balance of power, especially on an institutional level.
  • Scorpio Mercury trine Pisces Chiron Retrograde most exact on 12th November (4 universal day) – You may notice that when people reveal their darkest fears and truths, they begin to heal from them. You’re supposed to notice – it’s a message for you to do the same. Emotional healing starts with emotional vulnerability. Are you willing to let your guard down to relieve and heal your own emotional and spiritual pain?
  • Scorpio Mercury sextile Virgo Jupiter most exact on 13th November (5 universal day) – It’s amazing how circumstances change and doors open up for you once you’ve let people see who you really are. Still within orb of the previous day’s Mercury-Chiron trine, this transit rewards you for letting your guard down with practical and purposeful growth. Open yourself up to receive!
  • Scorpio Mercury conjunct Sun most exact on 17th November (8 universal day) – If you’ve been trying to hide something big, you may not have a choice but to reveal it now. If you’re on the cusp of a major revelation of vulnerability, the Sun almost ensures that your secret will be revealed in its Light. This expression of yourself may hold more life-transforming power than you realize. Hope you’re ready for your close-up.

It’s funny. Mercury in Scorpio teaches us that the things we think we’d die revealing to others is often exactly what we need to reveal in order to save ourselves.

Though I am a Sagittarius Sun native, Scorpio plays a prominent role in my chart. This 2015 Scorpio Sun period and Scorpio Mercury are really kicking my butt!…in a good way, I think. You’ll probably notice some changes in my expression coming through over the next few weeks and months as what is happening for me right now is a MAJOR emotional-spiritual paradigm shift on the deepest levels of my being. It hasn’t been easy, and it’s not going to be easy for a while…yet I’m choosing to trust that these changes are for the better. It might sound dramatic, but I’m believe that I am saving and healing my True self by allowing myself to let my guard down and finally be emotionally open and vulnerable with the people around me. Those people include all of you.

I encourage you to use the power of this 2015 Mercury in Scorpio to dig deeper into your own life experience and see what changes for you by allowing yourself to let your guard down and share your true self with others. You may be surprised what letting your “darkness” come to light brings to the surface of your life.
