The second Cancer New Moon of 2020 reaches its maximum phase at 10:33a PDT on Monday, 20th July (28.45). This Moon phase is giving us a big push out of our comfort zones, and into emotionally uncomfortable conversations and unfamiliar situations. These conversations and situations aren’t actually new. They’ve been lurking around for a while. We’ve known they were there. It’s just that many of us have managed to avoid these conversations and situations… until now.

That’s one of the curious things about this Cancer New Moon. New Moon phases are often associated with clean slates and new beginnings. Yet right now, the slate is anything but clean, and the new beginnings are not exactly ones many of us welcome. Yet these emotionally challenging new experiences of what’s already been in place are giving us the “new” beginnings we need right now in order to generate the inspiration for the initiation of positive new beginnings in the future.

The other curious thing about this Cancer New Moon is that it’s the second Cancer New Moon of 2020 – an astrological “blue moon” of sorts. This brings a second opportunity for us, individually and collectively, to connect with our emotional inner truth and find the courage to take actions in our lives in alignment with that truth.

But it’s the action part that scares people.

Because many of us are afraid to act on our emotional truths. We’ve been conditioned for so long that our emotions are irrational and irresponsible, many of us are scared to admit we feel the way we feel, especially if those feelings are ones of vulnerability or fear.

Yet in the current circumstances we face, our emotions are increasingly being brought to the surface; and they’re surfacing in unexpected ways, often when we’re most unprepared for them to arise. As we are under increasing pressure on a number of different fronts to consciously engage in activities and make choices which would change our livelihoods and lives, we’re finding ourselves seeing the world around us and our individual selves from a different perspective.

Some of us are ready for these changes. Some of us are ready for these shifts, and are eager to take action if we’re not already.

Yet many of us are not, and therein lies the rub.

There are quite a few people having a very hard time realizing that their self-perceptions are not aligned with their beliefs and/or feelings. They didn’t think they saw themselves or others in a certain way, but they’re beginning to realize they do. They’re also realizing that to change that perspective would change the way they approach almost everything in their lives – their social and professional associations, their habits and practices, their way of being. These current circumstances are pushing people, forcing people into change, whether they want it or not. And people are definitely in their feelings about it.

For those who aren’t ready, they’re fighting those who are. Because they don’t want to hear it, they don’t want to see it, they don’t want to believe it. They don’t want to leave what they know and who they believe themselves to be behind for the new. Yet they know that things are happening in such a way that they will be seen for who they truly are at some point soon – as either accepting and moving forward with the changes, or resisting and fighting the changes.

They’re already starting to be seen, fighting desperately to keep themselves and their perceptions of “the way the world works” intact. That’s why the changes happening now aren’t exactly what they seem. Though things may seem to be getting worse (and they are in many ways), they must get worse before they can get better now. We collectively allowed things to be stagnant for too long. We denied or avoided our collective growth for too long. Now the imbalance is beginning to correct itself… or at least it’s trying.

This effort is revealing itself in the numerology. This Cancer New Moon reaches is maximum phase on a 4 Universal day in a little over half the world, testing the values of individuals and their societies. IN the midst of chaos, structure is beginning to make itself known but it’s not providing stability or security. In fact, if anything, it’s revealing how embedded imbalance and insecurity actually are in our communities and societies, and it’s revealing how many people are determined to keep those imbalances in place. Many regressive and oppressive “changes” are being embraced instead of moving things forward into a more innovative era and experience.

However, the other half of the world is experiencing this New Moon energy under the influence of a 5 Universal day energy – an energy of change and unpredictability. There are quite a few changes in how the Eastern nations of the world are handling and managing things, embracing change, and in fact, making changes to the global status quo. As the Western nations struggle with their past clashing with their future, the Eastern nations seem very focused on their futures, making choices and changes, and taking actions to move things forward.

The 11 Universal month energy lets us know that though this may feel individual or personal, it’s actually a collective shift we are feeling, and as part of the collective whole, we are having an individual experience of (and in some cases, making an individual contribution to) the collective shift.

The 4 Universal year energy helps us understand that the collective experience is challenging the core strength of our individual and collective life structures because it’s forcing us to see ourselves and each other clearly – “2020 vision”. If you don’t feel your foundation is unstable or in question yet, you will soon. This instability is going to make presence known in fits and spurts. Things will happen very, very slowly as if barely anything is happening at all, then suddenly, something major may happen to push you into change, if you’re not already on that path.

The big astrological transit for the day is the Cancer 11 Sun + Moon conjunction which forms the New Moon. This conjunction is opposite Capricorn Saturn Retrograde (28° – exact!) at the time of maximum phase. This is all about our responses to the authority and disciplinary structures in our lives, as well as how those structures respond to us. Everyone is in response mode, trying to uphold the societal structures they’re used to. Yet some of these structures are proving they’re not what they seemed to be, and there may be deep emotional upset as you realize what you assumed would always be or would be a certain way is now showing signs of disintegration. Due to the 11 Universal month energy being active here, this is going to be felt largely on the community, societal, national, or worldly level – it will be collective becoming personal, all becoming individual.

Here are the other transits in effect at the time of the July 2020 Cancer New Moon’s max phase:

  • DAISY-CHAIN STELLIUM: Capricorn Pallas Athena Retrograde conjunct Jupiter Retrograde conjunct Pluto Retrograde (19-23°) – This is a sequential stellium where Pallas & Pluto are more than 3 apart, so I normally wou;dn’t count them as a conjunction. Yet Jupiter bridges the two by being in conjunction with BOTH of them, so Jupiter is the connecting energy. In this case, there’s a definite case of history repeating, and that fact becoming increasingly obvious by the minute. Yet there’s also the energy of societal structures being ripped open and any toxicity within them being revealed – everything once believed hidden is coming to light and breaking once-closed doors open and apart.
  • T-SQUARE: Cancer Vesta square Aries Black Moon Lilith square (Capricorn Pallas Athena Retrograde conjunct Jupiter Retrograde) (19-21°) – The ego is at the crux of everything happening now, and how we choose to express/act in alignment with our egos/self-identities will determine whether or not we are dedicated to caring for and about people, or growing more attached to our past. The funny thing is… we may not realize that we are outgrowing our past.
  • Libra Juno quincunx Pisces Ceres Retrograde (12°) – A commitment made to equality, fairness, and justice is deeply challenged by a shifting collective value system. As the values shift, it’s becoming harder to define exactly what equality, fairness or justice look like. Yet as we’re all beginning to see things from each other’s points of view, we’re realizing that this process cannot be solely intellectual – it must be emotional and/or spiritual. Yet logic, emotion, and spirituality don’t often blend well. In fact, what you once believed would be justice is maybe not aligned with the new values that are emerging.
  • Libra Juno opposite Aries Mars (12°) – There is also a desire to take action to follow through on that commitment to equality, fairness, and justice. Yet if your intention is not clear, there is a possibility that your action(s) could cause more harm than good to the process of advancing your intention…
  • Pisces Ceres Retrograde semi-sextile Aries Mars semi-sextile Taurus Uranus (10-12°) – …which is why the values must come first in this process. What is being valued by the collective whole at this time? What is the Highest, most noble service you could do at this time for the sake of ALL? And what action could you individually take to move that forward?
  • Taurus Uranus opposite Scorpio White Moon Selene (9-10°) – The values conversation is amplified by the fact that a lot of it is coming as result of social pressure. And especially in societies where lifestyle and livelihood values are based upon physical, material, and financial resources, it’s more difficult to see a Higher purpose to your lifestyle conditions at this time. This transit puts us in the position to choose what truly has value to us, individually and collectively, and to see if we can value emotional and spiritual depth and intimacy as much as we value physical, material, and financial gains.
  • Scorpio White Moon Selene trine Cancer Mercury (8-9°) – It’s more important than ever that we speak to that value of emotional and spiritual intimacy. Discussing our vulnerability is what help us develop compassion for one another. This is how we will be able to encourage and amplify the shift – by using our voices to communicate our honest feelings, our emotional truths.
  • Cancer Mercury sextile Taurus Uranus (8-10°) – The more we speak to these emotional truths, the more our social values shift. And the more our social values shift, the more the realities of the divide between our various lifestyles and livelihoods can be faced  and bridged in compassionate ways.
  • Aries Chiron Retrograde semi-sextile Taurus Uranus (9-10°) – The self-identity challenges coming up right now are directly linked to our lifestyle and livelihood values as a collective society. The more people perceive their place in society as threatened, as long as people feel their self-identity is at risk of being changed, they tend to dig in to their familiar values or the long-held societal values. Yet as society’s values change, this may find some individuals experiencing their values and, therefore, their self-identities being phased out by the collective whole. Many of these folks are acting out, fighting to preserve themselves and their values, refusing to accept that these changes are inevitable.

The effects of this July 2020 Cancer New Moon will be felt most strongly from 17th through 23rd July 2020. However, as many of can already tell, the events occurring right now are the beginning of something(s) that may continue on for many months and years to come.

Over these next few days and weeks, you will feel pressured to choose a side. And if you don’t choose a side, you’ll likely find yourself pushed to one – either the side of keeping things the same, or the side of collective evolutionary change. Instead of being passive, be proactive and use your personal power to make a conscious choice about how you want to engage with what is now and next.

Please be safe, be well, and stay aware and informed. It’s going to be a curious few days, weeks, months ahead, and frankly, an interesting next few years to come.
