The 2019 Cancer New Moon reaches its maximum phase at 12:16p PDT (10.63°) on Tuesday 2nd July in western half of the world and Wednesday 3rd July in the eastern half of the world. This New Moon phase is a continuation and intensification of the “purge and clear” energies we’ve been feeling over these last four months. You know – that “let go of the old” and “make space for the new to emerge in your life” stuff you’ve probably become tired of hearing? Yeah, that.
Yet this particular New Moon is not just a serious intensification of that energy – it is the climax of that energy. This 2019 Cancer New Moon shows up as a Total Solar Eclipse over the South Pacific and South American regions of the globe, and for all of us, this is THE big moment these last four months have been working up to. This is the moment we’ve been waiting for.
During the eclipse, the Moon will obstruct the Sun’s light from reaching Earth. This can be an ominous event, but in this case, the shadows may prove to be blessings in disguise as we also come to the moment where the lines are drawn, and it becomes clear where we are individually choosing to stand in matters of caring and compassionate emotional support and encouragement of ourselves and of others. The emotional clarity that is possible during this time helps us and others around us to make choices about how we want to proceed in our individual and collective life journeys from here.
Of course, there are those moments of Light in the darkness… and in with that Light in that darkness, we are likely to find the last bastions of our past hiding out hoping to sneak into the future with us. At first, it may seem that they’re going to fight us as we try to remove them – as we try to clear them from our consciousness and our everyday behavior patterns; as we try to clear them out of our everyday lives to prepare a new reality for ourselves. But the more we battle with them, the more we begin to realized that we’re actually the ones fighting their removal as many of us have learned to identify ourselves by these emotional behaviors and patterns and are afraid to learn who we would be and who we could become without them.

This is a time to be fully aware of the present moment – to be fully aware of how you feel here and now, to choose how you want to feel in the future, and to make your choices now in alignment with the feelings you want to experience first-hand in that future you’re preparing to create.
Numerologically speaking, this Total Eclipse New Moon is occurring on a 3 universal day in the western world and in much of the Middle East , and on a 22 universal day in the eastern world. This is significant because these energies are very different from each other, yet they are both dealing with the ugly truths we’ve been reluctant to face and deal with and with how those truths are affecting our ability to move forward into a brighter future.
- Three is a youthful energy, still learning from its environment in order to expand its awareness of how to grow and expand its presence in the world. In the case of this 2019 Cancer New Moon Eclipse, there is plenty to learn and come to terms with regarding the negative energies around us and within us that we are all facing now. Some of that learning comes through observing others, but the majority of the lessons we get to learn at this time come from observing ourselves.
- Twenty-two is coming to terms with the reality that solid community is formed through healthy emotional connections with others, and that it’s only possible to create a healthy community through the power of genuine love and care for self and others. When there are toxic emotional patterns present, it is far more challenging for community to be created in a healthy and positive way.

You’re at the airport, through security, at your gate ready to board the flight, and the gate attendant says, “I’m sorry. We only allow one carry-on bag along with your personal items. You can’t bring all of that with you on the plane.” As you look behind you, you see the luggage cart full of all the emotional baggage you’re trying to bring with you – all of the emotional attachments and investments which you’ve believed are part of your self-identity for so long, you can ‘t imagine yourself living without them… only you now know that they aren’t really who you truly are, and you also know you can’t go where you want to go in life if you’re still holding onto them. They must be left behind.
Yet you don’t want to part with them. You’re standing at the gate crying, kicking, screaming – in full-on toddler-tantrum – clinging to the handle of the luggage cart, trying to get your way and bring all this baggage with you. At this point, everyone else is moving around you to board the plane, and eventually, there’s no one else in line and it’s time for the gate to close and the plane to depart. It’s the moment of truth – let go of your emotional baggage and leave it behind to get on the plane OR hold onto your baggage for dear life, refuse to board, and allow this opportunity to be lost now and possibly forever.
The energy of this 2019 Cancer 1 New Moon + Total Solar Eclipse is exactly this moment of truth – in our individual and our collective life experiences.
This is what we’ve been building to for the last four months, trying to get us to understand that we cannot take this behavioral, material/physical, intellectual/mental, or emotional baggage with us into the next chapters of our lives. We simply cannot carry our pasts into our futures and expect to have our lives change for the better.
Yet so many of us are trying to do exactly that right now.
