Venus entered the sign of Sagittarius at 1:14a PST on Friday, 1st December 2017. As it did, it shifted the focus of our one-on-one relationships from deepening and developing emotional intimacy to the growth and expansion of creative energy in our relationships in order to align them with factual truth.

Venus is the planet representing one-on-one relationships, partnerships, and interactions of all kinds. It tends to be focused on the balance of energy between individuals or parties. Venus favors diplomacy and intellectual exchanges as a way of settling differences or bringing balance to imbalanced situations. To that point, Venus is generally an advocate for peace and justice, but it won’t hesitate to take an assertive or aggressive stand if that energy is needed to bring balance to the circumstances or relationship at hand.

Sagittarius is the sign of growth and expansion. It sets out to experience the world first hand, eager to share its knowledge with others, yet often learning as much as it teaches and gaining wisdom in the process. It seeks to open minds and hearts, but often ends up having its own mind and heart opened even further than it already was. Sag is also the sign associated with seeking and finding factual truth as result of its first-hand experiences. Its mantra could very well be “I’ve been there, I’ve done that, and let me tell you what I learned from that experience”.

Blending these energies, Venus in Sagittarius encourages us to open our minds to new or different forms of relationship with others. It can also open us to new, different, or more honest ways of interacting within our relationships and partnerships – ways which help establish or maintain balance, equality, and fairness between the parties involved.

This blend of energies usually brings a very positive and optimistic approach to relationship matters, opening our minds and hearts and sharing love and wisdom. However, this 2017 Venus in Sagittarius won’t bring the usual experience. In fact, some of our interactions with each other will be downright challenging as they may open our minds and hearts in ways we didn’t expect; and in some cases, they may even open the minds and hearts of people who didn’t really want to have them opened, resulting in relational rifts.

We may also find partners or other individuals are bringing us actual, factual truths, and we will find ourselves bringing truths to them as well. Yet these won’t be convenient truths that necessarily align with our ideals or our usual views of the world. And these won’t be comfortable truths which validate our personal views of our circumstances or possibly even the world. These interactions and the truths which emerge through them will challenge us to see the world and ourselves differently, which may bring us closer to the people we are in relationship or partnership with… or it may cause us to put distance between ourselves and them, creating and increasing a divide

The upcoming transits the 2017 Venus in Sagittarius makes with other planets will be major factors in how this truth-revealing energy plays out in our daily life experiences. Let’s look at these transits to develop a better understanding of how we may experience this energy over the next few weeks.

  • The 2017 Venus in Sagittarius starts out with a square transit to Neptune in Pisces most exact on 10th December, creating tension between emerging facts and idealized views or beliefs. The rose-colored glasses are coming off, especially in matters of world view. What seemed to be a wonderful thing may have its façades stripped away at this time, creating a mind-opening experience which is more forced by proverbial crowbar than allowed to gently unfold in its own time.
  • Then Jupiter in Scorpio brings its energy to Sag Venus via semi-sextile transit, most exact on 11th December (felt 8th-14th), encouraging a deeper dive into the emotional-spiritual truth of your relationship(s). This may lead to the revelation of some hard facts about your relationships and whether or not they are ready to deepen and grow. It may also be a call to go public or bring a secret relationship out into the open, or a call to expand the community around your partnership(s) in some way.
  • Next, the factual truths of our relationship interactions brought to us by Venus in Sagittarius lead us into another phase of transformative shifts in our societal institutions and structures through its semi-sextile transit with Pluto in Capricorn, most exact on 15th December (felt 12th-18th). Since we have the energy of Sagittarius expanding on what is already occurring, be ready for these shifts to be bigger than usual. In fact, this energy is more likely to manifest in our outward or more public/professional experience of the world than in our private/personal experience, though it will certainly make an impact on our personal lives because it will affect many if not all of us.
  • This is followed by yet another square transit – this time with Pisces Chiron Retrograde on 20th December (felt 17th-23rd), which challenges us to face truths which can help us heal our connections with others… if we want to be healed, and if the other person(s) want to be healed. The challenge here is that we won’t be able to heal someone who doesn’t want to be healed, and in this particular case, we won’t be able to open the mind of someone who doesn’t want their mind to be opened. Therefore, certain relationships may not be able to be healed, despite the opportunity to begin a healing process.
  • There is some good news, though! Maybe. Venus in Sagittarius makes trine aspect with Aries Uranus Retrograde, most exact on the 20th as well (felt 17th-23rd), bringing an opportunity for one-on-one interactions to spark community reactions OR for a community reaction to spark a one-on-one relationship or partnership. This partnership could be formed out of the recognition of truths revealed through community activities. However, if there is tension building within a partnership (which could be likely considering the transits prior to this one), this trine transit could also find your community influencing your partnership(s) in a way that ignites tension into a full-blown conflict. The good news is that everything would be out in the open. The bad news is… that opening may cost you the relationship.

The best news of all is that the relationships that are genuinely aligned with the factual truths of both or all parties involved will experience the growth and expansion of their relationships through the influence of Venus in Sagittarius. For those of you who are committed to establishing healthy, peaceful, and balanced dynamics in your relationships and who are willing to face the truths about yourselves and each other to have those dynamics in place, this will be a time for growing together in partnership.

Meanwhile, relationships which don’t measure up to their hype or live up to our hopes may fall by the wayside, which some of us will also experience as a good thing. However, for those of you who are unwilling to face factual truths and are determined to be in a power position in your relationships, this could be a time for growing apart.

Will you have experiences growing together or growing apart… or will you have experiences with both growing together and growing apart?

Whichever case(s) may apply to you, make sure to make the most of this time of relational truth born of first-hand experience. Venus will be in the sign of Sagittarius now through 25th December.
