Saturn – retrograde since April – returned to direct motion at 5:08a PDT on Friday, 25th August 2017. Now that it’s moving direct, we are in position to focus our energies on our newly-clarified goals and expand our ability to set boundaries in order to protect ourselves from distraction.

Saturn is about focus and discipline, and the authority figures which keep us on track in that regard. This is the presence of father figures & disciplinarians who remind us of our responsibilities and enforce the rules and regulations. Sagittarius is the adventurous truth-seeker – the one that inspires us to go out into the world, explore and experience, and return from our journeys to share our expanded knowledge and wisdom with others. Together, these two energies combine to keep us focused on and aligned with factual truth as we know it. Under the influence of Saturn Direct in Sagittarius, we are being held accountable for the truths we claim to believe.

Each time Saturn in Sagittarius has been in retrograde (three times since December 2014), we’ve been given individual and collective opportunities to reflect upon what our truths we were really aligned with, and to assess whether or not those truths were factual and indisputable. We were challenged to experience intellectual and cultural adventures – to face the truths of others, to compare them with our own, and to make choices about which paths we wanted to align with.

It’s now time to earnestly hold ourselves and each other accountable for our chosen paths and the beliefs which lead us forward on them. Saturn Direct in Sagittarius is calling upon each and all of us to claim the burdens of truth we’ve been resistant to claim.

The retrogrades – especially this last one – also helped many of us recognize that a large part of our individual and collective resistance to truth is that we don’t want to face indisputable facts. In the face of facts, we may be obliged to admit we’ve been hypocrites or that we’ve judged others for what we’ve done (or wanted to do) ourselves. Often, our burdens are of our own making. We do our best to blame others for our wrongdoings or justify our wrongdoings by pointing out those of others.

Yet what is really needed is an understanding that what we resist persists… and these days, often expands. The more we try to avoid our burdens of truth, the heavier they becomes and the more stressful it becomes to carry them. The additional stress creates more fear of being overtaken by it, and the fear that it may increase or that it often creates more resentment of the burden, which leads to anger. This is the anger we see in the world right now – the anger resulting from the resentment resulting from the fear resulting from the stress resulting from the hypocrisy brought to light by the factual, experiential truth.

The irony of claiming our burdens of truths is that in doing so, we often find ourselves set free of everything we were afraid of.

And by claiming our truth, it is no longer a burden to us. In fact, it may be more accurate to refer to it as an unburdening of truth as the burden was due solely to the effort to suppressing truth or preventing it from emerging.

With the fear of emerging truth out of the way, we become free to align with our inner truths and pursue our goals and ambitions. The little things we allowed to distract us out of fear of being found out or exposed are no longer have power over us.

Yet there is now something else to factor in – responsibility and accountability to factual truth.

The choices we make from here on out are choices made in and from that now-exposed truth. Our next steps forward are steps which will openly reveal our alignment with that truth. And our alignment – or lack thereof – will be what we are held responsible or accountable for by ourselves and others.

Those of us who are not wanting to be responsible or accountable for our alignment (of lack thereof)  with factual truth may find ourselves feeling held back or held down in one or more ways in our lives. We may even feel oppressed or limited by the responsibility. These feelings would be the result of being trapped in our denial of facts. The moment we choose to align with factual truth, we’ll be able to breathe easier and experience more if not total freedom in the matter(s) at hand.

It may seem paradoxical, yet responsibility really is the key to freedom, growth, and expansion under the influence of Saturn in Sagittarius. The more willing we are to own up to our choices and their alignment with or diversion from truth, the more freedom and ease we experience in our lives. This has been our lesson under this influence since Saturn entered Sagittarius in late 2014, and now – on its last direct motion through the sign – we have one last opportunity to gain and apply its wisdom and expansion to our lives.

Saturn will remain in Sagittarius now through 19th/20th December 2017 when it enters its home sign of Capricorn.

There are four major transits for 2017 Saturn Direct in Sagittarius occurring in the next few weeks:

  • Sagittarius Saturn sextile Libra Jupiter, most exact on 27th August – A growing awareness of imbalance and injustice supports a greater call for factual truth and accountability to that truth. More of us may be calling for authority figures to be held to fact. However, we may also be held to fact in our own lives. No one is exempt from the truths that are emerging, no matter how beautiful or ugly they may be.
  • Sagittarius Saturn quincunx Cancer Ceres, most exact on 3rd September – There may be some painful realizations when we discover that what we are emotionally invested in may not be factually true in part or in full. Will we individually and collectively remain in our emotional comfort zones, or allow ourselves to embrace objective fact?
  • Sagittarius Saturn trine Leo Venus, most exact on 12th September – Are we choosing to express our creative energies individually or in partnership with others? Do we share common goals or objectives with our partners, and are we aligned with the same factual and experiential truths?
  • Sagittarius Saturn square Virgo 1 Sun, most exact on 13th September – This transit may expose the rift between theoretical and experiential truth. There are the plans we create, and there’s the implementation of those plans, and revisions may be required in order for everyday life to function effectively.
