Mercury entered the sign of Aries on Monday, 13th March 2017 at 1:07p PDT, shifting our thoughts and words from emotional sensitivity, compassion, intuition, and collective consciousness to thoughts and words which inspire initiative individual actions.

Now before all of you peaceful, compassionate types get sad and instantly nostalgic for the last few weeks, keep in mind that the Sun is still in Pisces. We aren’t done having our primary focus on the interconnectedness of All-That-Is. Yet thanks to Mercury in Aries, we’re in a better position to speak up and speak out for healing and restoring our unity now.

The fact that we aren’t being in tune and in harmony with each other and/or our surroundings and collective environment as much as we could be has not gone unnoticed. We may be even more aware of it now than we’ve ever been, and some of us are not just disappointed or upset, but downright angry and ready to demand that something be done. Now, many of us have been eager to let people know just how upset we are about the fact that we are so discordant and divided, and that we want the division to stop.

We’ve been busy taking actions…

…which makes perfect sense! Aries is the initiative individual – the one who gets things started, who moves forward regardless of whether or not anyone else is following. Aries is independent action, so it’s not as if things are being said or done because someone told someone else to say or do it. Rather, things are being said and done because people are individually inspired to say them and because they want action to be taken if they don’t take action themselves. They are ready to stand up and fight for what they are inspired by.

Mercury is the messenger of the Zodiac, and it almost always has something to say. It delivers its messages swiftly and effectively, and in the sign of Aries, it delivers them directly and assertively. There is little chance of misinterpretation of the content. Mercury in Aries – especially this 2017 Mercury in Aries – is going to make its messages quickly and clearly known, and it may make its messages known through action as actions tend to speak louder than words.

But despite that sentiment that the actions say enough, this 2017 Mercury in Aries is calling upon us to do one thing: to back up our actions with words. The actions alone will not be enough. All of us may be asked to explain ourselves over these next few weeks, and we’ll need to get ready to do so.

This is, indeed, an opportunity to back up our past and current actions AND to set our intentions for our present and future actions with our words – to acknowledge the inspirations and motivations for our actions, to acknowledge the areas where we are either together or divided, and to ask ourselves and each other what we want to do about it all from here.

There are a lot of things that we’ve recently done, yet have made no clear explanation for. What were the intentions? What were the motives? Mercury in Aries is calling upon us to vocalize them and make them known.

There are a lot of things that we are being called to act upon or act for, yet what will actually (or is actually) initiating our action steps? Mercury in Aries is calling upon us to be clear about our intentions and motives prior to our actions.

Communication is key right now, and the thoughts, ideas, and words used to communicate things now will set the tone for the next 12 months as we are at the cusp of a new astrological and seasonal year officially beginning 20th March (Spring Equinox).

That all said, this 2017 Mercury in Aries will make some fairly big impressions early on.

  • Aries Mercury semi-sextile Taurus Mars, most exact on 15th March – Words inspire people to act in their own best interests to secure the resources they need to ensure their lifestyles and, possibly, their survival. Look for this transit to be the catalyst for events which inspire people to preserve what they are accustomed to.
  • Aries Mercury conjunct Venus Retrograde, most exact on 18th March – Inspired thoughts and words may profoundly shift individual perspectives. But are the new perspectives and the clarity from those perspectives bringing people together or driving them apart? And do relationships strengthen or sever as result?
  • Pisces Neptune semi-sextile Aries Mercury, most exact on 19th March – It’s nice to have ideals, dreams, and aspirations, but are you going to speak up so they become the reality…or remain silent so they only remain dreams? Are you inspired enough by your vision to speak it into existence?

Mercury will be in Aries now through 31st March when it enters Taurus. But in 2017, it won’t be the last Mercury sees of Aries as Mercury begins a retrograde period on 9th April and re-enters Aries on 20th April for round two…which will see Mercury going direct on 3rd May before finally leaving Aries on 15th May. In other words, there will be another 4-week opportunity for Mercury in Aries to call upon us, only the second time it will more likely to be calling us to action rather than calling us to explain ourselves.

Let’s just get through round one first, yes?
