This evening, Venus conjuncts Mars at 1.69° Aries at 9:13p PST.

Venus-Mars conjunctions are always a big deal, simply because it involves Venus and Mars.  This is the traditional male and female archetypes coming together, and a lot of excitement is expected whenever this occurs regardless of the sign it occurs in.  Often, transits involving these two planets are accompanied by romantic notions and passionate expectations.  Yet this February 2015 Venus-Mars connection is a very potent conjunction – more so than a Venus-Mars conjunction might usually be because of the sign it occurs in.

Three fascinating things about this particular Venus-Mars in Aries conjunction:

  • This conjunction occurs in Aries which is Mars’ sign of rulership. Therefore, Mars’ energy is strengthened by this conjunction since it’s at home.  This makes it more likely that any actions that are taken in relationships or that are taken by individuals in partnerships will be more assertive or aggressive.
  • This conjunction also occurs under a Universal 1 numerological energy. One is very similar to Aries energy – initiative action, leadership by initiative, likes to get things started, likes to be first.  This Aries conjunction under 1 energy may also indicate that people who don’t usually take the initiative in their partnerships or relationships may be inclined to do so.
  • The Moon is also travelling through Aries, having made conjunctions with both Venus and Mars in Aries between 3:30p and 4:30p yesterday,20th February, and making conjunctions with the South Node in Aries and Uranus in Aries earlier in the day today. This indicates that many actions taken in the last 36 hours definitely have an emotional motivation or there is an emotional charge to them that is more potent and assertive than usual.

Aries is a sign that encourages individual initiative, independent action, and being a leader in one’s life.  However, it’s not a great energy for partnerships.  The one exception is if the partners are acting as a truly unified front – where two become one.  Then, in that Oneness, this conjunction could prove very valuable in helping the tandem unit move things forward with action.

However, Aries is mythologically known as “the god of war”.  Anger and aggression in and/or toward relationships or partnerships may also rise to the surface during this time.  There could be an upsurge in violence or aggression expressed that may rise to the surface due to this Venus-Mars conjunction in Aries.

To this point, it’s important to remember that NO partnership is completely fulfilling.  Each partner has at least one interest that they cannot share with their partner.  No matter how much you may try to do everything together, you eventually have to face the inevitable – sometimes, you have to go it alone…or at least without your partner.  Without space for individual action within partnerships, one or both partners can become resentful or angry, feeling repressed or that they have no voice in the relationship; or feeling betrayed because their partner feels they have to sneak behind their back in order to have a space for self-expression.  These are the things that may be aggravated during this Venus-Mars conjunction in Aries.

The way this Aries Venus-Mars conjunction could be beneficial to an existing partnership is if the partners respect each other’s individuality and independence.  Since Aries adds a quality of autonomy and assertiveness, this may be a good time to encourage your partner to pursue a dream they’ve held for a long time or to do something they’ve wanted to do for a long time.

The key here is to encourage your partner to do something that they want to do, not what you want them to do for you.  They get to do it for themselves, and it may actually bring you closer as a partnership or a couple to give them the space to do something that satisfies their soul.

Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your partnership is to remember to be individuals and do things alone. By allowing yourselves to satisfy your souls apart, your relationship together may be the stronger for it.
